KENT (COX's ORANGE PIPPIN X JONATHAN)

An apple in the best tradition of its parents: creamy white, crisp, juicy flesh with a delectable aromatic flavor. Its surface is red with darker stripes, often partially russeted on green to yellow ground on the shaded side. It is of conical shape and medium size but in years with poor pollination it will produce large parthenocarpic fruits, especially on M9 rootstock. On M27 it produces an adorable dwarf tree. The home gardener will be pleased with its keeping qualities: Picked at about Jonathan time, it will keep until March in ordinary (37-38 degrees F.) storage.

SUNTAN (COX's ORANGE PIPPIN X COURT PENDU PLAT)

A large, attractively orangered flushed triploid with classical Cox flavor-- if eaten when fully ripe in December. Before its time it is quite acidy but makes good cider. The tree is rather vigorous even on M7 and MM106 rootstocks and it takes a few years to come into full cropping. On the positive side is the late flowering habit derived from its 'father'.

GREENSLEEVES (JAMES GRIEVE X GOLDEN DELICIOUS)

This is an early Golden Delicious type, green-yellow with conspicuous lenticels and the occasional pink blush. The pale yellow flesh is crisp and juicy with a pleasant somewhat tart flavour. It can be picked for about four weeks from September to October and will keep in ordinary storage until late November. Fruit thinning is essential as it flowers profusely on both spurs and one-year-old fruit. While very precocious, the flowers are said to have some resistance to frost.
