CONFERENCE LOCATION: UCSC Inn and Conference Center is in Santa Cruz at 611 Ocean Street. Call (866) 827-2466. The NAFEX and CRFG special rate of $99 per day includes a continental breakfast and applies to either a single or a double room (Live it up! Bring a friend.) These rooms normally cost $150 a night. A list of nearby hotels will be available soon.
TRAVEL: The San Jose International Airport is about 30 miles east of Santa Cruz and the San Francisco International Airport is over an hour away. When attending tours away from Santa Cruz or Watsonville, it is recommended that you stay in motels in the tour cities because of heavy Bay Area traffic. Motel 6 has locations in Davis, Pinole and San Jose. On Tuesday, the Wolfskill tour at Winters near Davis, is about 100 miles north of the San Jose International Airport with Pinole about the half way point. A local garden tour will be available for those interested in staying in the Pinole area on Monday evening. Tours on Wednesday are mostly in the Santa Clara Valley (in and near San Jose).
PARKING: Parking is limited around the hotel on weekdays. You can increase your chances of obtaining a space by staying at the hotel or car pooling. Extra spaces will be available across the street (east) of the hotel on Friday and some spaces are available west of the hotel around a city park. On Saturday, the county government complex parking lot can be used so parking will be plentiful.
REGISTRATION: Registration forms will appear simultaneously on the websites (www.nafex.org & www.crfg.org) and in the Fruit Gardener around July 1st. See instructions on the registration form for mailing and payment. However, the form does not mention PayPal but this option is available for on-line payment. Forms can be sent to Bill Grimes at 66 Farragut Avenue, San Francisco, CA94112. Also, the forms may be scanned and e-mailed to Bill at president -@- crfg.org . Registration packets given out at the conference (on most of Friday and on Saturday morning) will include ID badge, meal tickets and fruit tasting tickets. If you can pick up your registration early, your ID badge will help tour assistants check you in for tours. You can attend tours without picking up your ID from your registration packets. Registration packets may be picked up early at the following locations:
- Monday - Idell Weydemeyer’s in El Sobrante (1.5 miles from the Pinole Motel 6), just off Highway 80, on the way to the Tuesday Wolfskill tour . Pick up packets from 2:30-5:00 p.m. or call 510-223-6291 if you are traveling through earlier.
